Sarah R Dubois
Bio / Info:
I was born in California where I first sat
on a horse at the age of 6. My best friend wanted to take
riding lessons and didn't want to go alone... So I tagged
along and the rest is history! My family moved to Flower Mound,
Texas in 1991 where I continued to ride and I was quickly
introduced to the competetive side of riding at Summer Tree
Stables and Wagon Wheel Ranch. I became hooked and my parents
bought me my first horse, Ditto, when I turned 12. He and
I began competeting on a regular basis in the North Texas
Hunter Jumper Association where we won numerous awards together.
In 1998, my family packed up and moved to Cumming, Georgia.
Of course I refused to move without my horse, so Ditto came,
too! We rode together at Star Ridge Stables under Stella Prescott
where we competed in the Georgia Hunter Jumper Association
until I went off to college in 2001.
I attented Berry College where I earned
my Bachelor's degree in Business with a concentration in Finance.
While in school, I rode on the Berry College Equestrian Team
under coach Margaret Knight. In 2005, I was the Regional and
Zone champion over fences and the Reginals Reserve Champion
on the flat. I rode on to a 6th place finish over fences at
Nationals 2005.
After college, Ditto and I moved to Gainesville
Georgia where we found Rivendell Farm to be our new home.
I started assisting the trainer, Rachel Abel, with lessons
and before I knew it, I was the assistant coach for the Rivendell
High School, Rivendell Middle School and North Gwinnett High
School Equestrian Teams which competed in RIFNA and IEA. I
was also the assistant coach for the Mill Creek High School
equestrian team in IEA. I went on to coach at the 2009 and
2010 IEA National Finals. I have been a very active coach
with IEA and was recently nominated to be the head of the
Junior Committee for IEA Zone 4. I am also an active steward
for other teams hosing IEA shows. I hope to create a high
school and middle school IEA team at A Racing Heart Stables
in the near future!!
Besides IEA, I am also involved in showing
at both local, A and GHJA sanctioned shows. I am still actively
riding and showing myself. Over the last 2 years, I competed
in the jumper ring with my mare, Roca. I have also ridden
in the schooling and open ring with different training horses.
Riding is my life, and I will continue to ride horses for
as long as I can.
Teaching students how to care for and ride
horses is my passion. I feel that it is best to learn how
to ride all different types of horses, and how to be competeive
on your own as well. I like to teach students how to connect
with their horses, not to just sit there and go for a pony
ride. Care and safety are just as, if not more, important
in riding and I will stress the care of the horses and the
safety of the riders all the time.
